What do the circle size and colour represent on the map?

How to use the circle size and colour-coding to interpret the data.

Each point (circle) on the map represents an individual geographic area. The size and colour of these circles change depending on which indicators you have selected:

  • Circle Size:
The size of each circle shows the financial wellbeing indicator you’ve chosen (for example, Overdrawn Accounts or Living Beyond Means). Larger circles indicate higher values for that indicator within the selected area.
  • Circle Colour:
The colour of each circle reflects the contextual indicator you’ve selected (for example, Youth Population or GP Driving Time). The colour scale is shown in the key at the bottom right of the map view so you can see what each shade represents.

Tip:
The financial wellbeing and contextual dropdown menus work independently. This means you can mix and match different combinations to explore relationships between indicators. For example, if you select “Overdrawn Accounts,” the circle size will adjust to show overdrawn account levels, while the colour might reflect school attainment.

Additional Details:

  • Use the date selector to move through different time periods and see how indicators change over time.
  • Previously, the map included a results section in the top right corner showing:
  • A trend plot of the selected financial indicator over time
  • A scatter plot comparing the financial and contextual indicators

This section has now been hidden by default to reduce clutter and improve the focus of the main map view. If you’d like to see these additional charts, you can click Show Results in the bottom left Explore panel.
