How do I prepare a dataset that can be integrated into the Economic Wellbeing Explorer?
Prepare your data for integration
The Explorer visualises data at intermediate zone (Scotland) or MSOA (England and Wales) level. We refer to these as neighbourhoods, and it’s from this level we aggregate up to local authority (LAD) level, and across the Explorer to regional and national level. This neighbourhood level allows a good low-level granularity, protecting privacy as the user focuses in on a population, whilst also allowing for sufficient data to produce an output for each area.
A dataset should be provided with an indicator value for each neighbourhood within the council (defined by being the 2011 intermediate or MSOA zone boundaries), and with a date the dataset represents.
If, for example, the dataset is to show a provision of a service, the reach of that service, whether it might be clients of a service within that geographic area, or the placement of a service’s physical infrastructure; these could be a count of the instances of a service within a neighbourhood. This could allow for discovery of misalignment between the services being provided and the need exposed by Smart Data Foundry’s financial data.
If data is being provided over a time period, please create a separate file for each date.
