How representative is the data?
Useful information about representativeness of financial and contextual data.
The Economic Wellbeing Explorer uses data designed to give a robust picture of financial wellbeing in Great Britain.
Financial Indicators
These measures are based on an anonymised dataset covering 5 million GB consumer bank accounts, which covers about 10% of the GB banking population.
While this is a large sample, it is important to note:
- It represents a significant portion of the population but not the entire banking market.
- The data comes from accounts provided by our trusted data partners.
- As with any sample, there may be some variation compared to the full national picture.
Contextual Indicators
These come from official, open data sources such as:
- National censuses
- Government statistics
- Indices of Multiple Deprivation (IMD)
These datasets are typically designed to be as complete and representative as possible. Read more about contextual datasets here.
How should I interpret this?
Together, these sources give a strong and reliable basis for understanding local financial wellbeing. However, as with any aggregated dataset:
- Individual circumstances may differ.
- Some groups or areas may be underrepresented.
- It should be viewed as indicative, not exhaustive.
